On the 22nd of February 2021 Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the government’s roadmap to cautiously ease lockdown restrictions.
If this roadmap is successful, then competitive sporting events will be back. I finished off this interview by asking the Hyltons about their aims for 2021 and onwards.
Shannon mentioned that her aim is to “qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games, that is literally the aim. Also, to stay happy and healthy and keep enjoying the sport.”
Cheriece's agreed that the Olympics were also her main aim and said she had “been working towards them since 2014 when I made my first international championship as a junior and that has always been something that has been on the radar. But also, sporting wise you just need to focus on the 24 hours that are in front of you to achieve your goals and take it day by day. You just need to optimise each day and you get yourselves closer to your end goals”.
As well as their sporting goals, both girls have personal goals they hope to achieve this year. Shannon said that she has decided to “to read a book a month”. Shannon is also learning French.
The Hyltons have gone through a lot over the last year in their personal and professional life but have come through it stronger and better than ever. We hope to see them return to active competition and achieve their goal of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
